A Status Update During this Time of COVID-19

A message from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

I wanted to provide an update on what we are doing during this time of unprecedented

change. Every week we adapt what we can do within the constraints of donations and

funding to continue to stay open and meet the needs of our clients.

First, some of the facts:

Our pool of volunteers that are vital to our weekly operations are choosing not to

come to our Maple Grove facility. Many of our volunteers are retired, and we want to

ensure their safety throughout this ordeal and completely understand their choice. We

look forward to their return when this is all over.

Our thrift stores are temporarily closed. While providing nearly 50% of our annual

operational needs, we chose to adhere to the mandates of our Governor and closed

both locations. Our Staff have been given the option to take short shifts to maintain

the donations that are still coming in, or come into our Center and help fill the gap of

volunteers that have elected to stay home.

Our Medicine Cabinet still had supplies thanks to the recent Pack the Pantry event

donations. While we continue to deliver Sack Lunches to our clients on Saturday

mornings, we have modified the distribution at the Food Pantry; rather than families

walking through our lines and choosing their food preferences, we instead are

providing a pre-packed bag of groceries outside the facility.

Next, how the future will unfold:

Our supplies of staples like bread are non-existent. Our usual donors of bread no

longer have any stock to donate, and like you, we can’t even purchase temporary

replacements in the stores. We are adjusting based on what IS still available to fill the

gap. And next week, we may have to move to another option, but we will continue to

shift and do whatever we need to keep our doors open.

We expect our demand for our limited supplies to explode. In the coming weeks, as

families that normally never would have considered our Food Pantry and Medicine

Cabinet as an option, run out of options, our services may become their primary

source of survival in the coming month.

It is times like these that I am amazed by the continued generosity of donors and

supporters like you. While we are actively looking for a donor who is willing to match

gifts received in April, until that time please consider how you can help us meet our

clients where they are at with what they need. May God bless you.

Sincerely,

Tony Ley

Executive Director
